Brake pad shear strength tests are conducted to determine the strength of the attachment of the friction material to the steel back plates of brake pads and brake shoes.
There are minimum brake pad shear strength requirements, which all brake pads have to comply with:
Cold and hot brake pad shear strength tests are conducted on equipment specifically designed to conduct these tests on brake pads and brake shoes in accordance with the requirements of the International Standards Organization specification ISO 6312
