Brake pad lining shear strength test

Brake pad shear strength tests are conducted to determine the strength of the attachment of the friction material to the steel back plates of brake pads and brake shoes.

There are minimum brake pad shear strength requirements, which all brake pads have to comply with:

  1. The Economic Commission for Europe Regulation 90 for the approval of replacement brake lining assemblies and drum brake linings for power driven vehicles and their trailers
  2. The South African compulsory specification applicable to replacement brake lining assemblies as published in Notice No. R95 appearing in Government Gazette No. 22014 dated 2 February 2001

Hot and cold brake shoes shear strength testCold and hot brake pad shear strength tests are conducted on equipment specifically designed to conduct these tests on brake pads and brake shoes in accordance with the requirements of the International Standards Organization specification ISO 6312
